US-born bassist/composer Peter Scherr has lived in Hong Kong since 1989. Since leaving the Hong Kong Philharmonic in 1996, he has been increasingly active in local creative music circles, playing with the finest local and international musicians. This year has been a busy one for Mr. Scherr, with several projects in progress including RED (www.redthetrio.com), Quiet Focus, a collaboration with Guitarist Ken Rose and Trumpeter Toby Mak and "The Blue Album" - an experimental project created by Scherr for fall ' 03 release. As well, Mr. Scherr is an enthusiastic member of Jun Kung's band "Junk Art". He says: "Though recording is very important to me, live playing is at the center of what I do. In performance there exists a unique opportunity to create new musical worlds that include both the musicians and audience. I judge my performances not so much by how well I play, but rather how effectively the group as a whole manages to evade the expected. Mr. Scherr is also active in film scoring, and has added distinctive soundtracks to many locally produced independent films, including "Tall Shadows" (Kees Van Es, Director) which has been showing in short film festivals worldwide and "Moon at the last Quarter" (S.L Lau, director) which received a finalist certificate in last years New York festival.
